As the impact of COVID-19 continues to be felt in our community, I want to take a moment to share with you the measures Bella SPCA is taking during this difficult time. Our mission of saving lives often requires person-to-person contact so we are adjusting our actions to keep everyone safe. The wellbeing of our donors, adopters, fosters, volunteers, and fellow pet owners is paramount.
First, we love posting “Welcome Home” photos from our Saturday Adoption Outreaches but for now we are going to pause those for the next two weekends. If you would like to adopt one of our dogs, and we hope you do, please submit an adoption application via our website and our staff will arrange a one-on-one meeting. If you are looking for a feline friend, you can meet our cats up for adoption at the PetSmart on I-240 and South Pennsylvania anytime during regular store business hours.
Next, for the time being, we will continue our low-cost vaccination outreaches but with changes. We are asking our customers to wait in their car until we are ready. If you have an appointment, please arrive a few minutes before your scheduled time to complete paperwork. Please leave your pet in the car while you come in to pick up paperwork and take it back with you. When we are ready, we will come and get you and your pet. This will slow down the process a little but limiting the number of people being together in a small space will help keep you safe.
Additionally, we are pausing visits by our Pawsitive Heelers team. This group of amazing volunteers visits a variety of locations using rescue dogs to brighten someone’s day. As much as this service is needed right now, the risk to both our volunteers and the people we meet is too great.
Finally, several people have asked if your pet can catch Coronavirus from you or you from them. There is no evidence of this according to the Center for Disease Control and World Health Organization. We do, however, encourage you to wash your hands thoroughly before and after interacting with your pet.
Bella SPCA is committed to serving our community and doing it safely. We are currently following the advice of public health officials and will continue to adjust our procedures as the situation unfolds. Over the coming days, please give extra love to your four-legged friends and each other.
